The research shows that you cannot simply put a student of a different language in a classroom and expect them to just pick up the new language. It shows that time, resources, and supplemental educational assistance is required for accurate second language acquisition.
Districts should be less focused on how long a student is identified as an ELL and more focused on how well the students are being educated to actually learn the second language.
