There are three important guidelines that will shape the workshop on Adopting and Adapting Curriculum.
1. Understanding the needs of our students
2. Making sure the curriculum is aligned with the educational standards of both State and District. 
3. Making sure that all students can have a meaningful educational experience with the new curriculum, one that reflects cultural sensitivity.
 
Workshop: Adopting and Adapting Curriculum for Our Students
 
A. Welcome and Introduction - 10 AM
a. Coffee, pastries and fruit
 
B. Making sure the curriculum has sufficient rigor - 10:10 AM
a. Aligning the curriculum to State and District standards and benchmarks 
b. How to adapt a curriculum - 10:30 AM
i. Making changes to adjust the pace of delivery 
ii. Making changes to adjust the depth and complexity of the material 
 
C. Breakout Session One - 11:00 AM - Practice adapting/adjusting existing curriculum by discipline area and then report out to the whole group on challenges and successes.
 
D. Making sure the curriculum is culturally sensitive and reflects the needs of our students - 11:30 AM
a. Understanding the needs of our students 
b. How to make connections between the curriculum and the lives of our students
 
E. Breakout Session Two - 12:00 PM - Practice creating opportunities for student make connections betwen teh curriclum and theri own experiences.
 
F. Lunch - 12:30 PM
 
G. Strategies for ensuring student engagement with the curriculum - 1 PM
a. Understanding diverse learning styles (15 minutes)
b. How to encourage cooperative learning (15 minutes) 
c. Creating hands-on activities for your students (15 minutes)
d. Developing appropriate levels of scaffolding (15 minutes)
 
H. Incorporating technology effectively - 2:00 PM
a. Using SmartBoards, Chromebooks, and other devices in the classroom
 
I. Wrap-up 2:20 PM
