Scenario Response 2
Scenario 2
The first thing I would do is some background research on the culture itself. I would try to make sure that I was not doing or saying anything that would make them uncomfortable. I also think that being open and communicative with parents as much as possible will help. While they are being introduced to a new culture themselves, we are all humans and have to work together to have understanding and respect. I also think that giving your class a heads up about how students may have different thoughts or beliefs (even if they aren’t from a different country) is a normal thing they will experience all the time. Teaching tolerance and acceptance in a a classroom isn’t just for ELL students, it is for everyone. As an educator it is my job it make the classroom a safe space for everyone. Working as a team of class and teacher will help make new students who are experience in culture shock feel a bit more secure.
