Non-text books:

Does it meet the state benchmarks?

Does it allow differentiation for ELL/ESE students and other accommodations?

Does the story photo/context age appropriate and respectful to the culture?

Does the text avoid unconscious bias?

Is the text developmentally appropriate content for desired group?

Textbooks:

Does text have apportioning and aligned assessments/evaluations? 

Does the text have visuals to support student needs?

As a teacher, I believe more teacher involvement should be considered when choosing textbooks, curriculum and non-text books, per school and per grade level. Every school community and culture that they serve are different. Some of the materials provided including assessments can be so condensed and overwhelming that they do not meet the students need because we are often trying to teach them so much in so little time.
