When creating a behavior plan for your ELL students, you have to build rapport with the student. Getting and gathering as much background knowledge of students history, family/home and culture to help better understand the student. Knowing how/why they may respond to rules, rituals, and routines a specific way. From then I would collect anecdotal notes on when and where the problematic behaviors are occurring. I would reiterate rules, expectations, consequences as a whole group reminder and directly to the student, but one-on-one. I would also communicate with the family along the way to keep them informed of students progress. Behavioral awareness is so important for ELL families is very important. Different countries have different expectations for student behaviors necessary for making gains in education. Every situation is different and being aware of ones own personal bias beforehand is also important when using preventative measures/resources.
