Module 1 Discussion: The Stages of Language Progression
Stages of Language Progression
I will say what surprised me about the language progression is how long it takes to be fluent in a second language. I have seen when students stay silent due to the language barrier. They use pictures or other ways to communicate.
Implications to teaching ELL is to use differentiated instructions to make sure the students are comfortable in the class environment. Give the ELL students exposure to English language and explicit vocabulary and give them an environment that they feel comfortable enough to make mistakes and learn from the mistakes.
