Presentation and PPT

Parent workshops are very important and as a teacher it is important to be prepared.

First thing that I would do is know the crowd and families that are coming. Make sure to have something for them like coffee and soft drinks. Sometimes these parents get out of work and not eat,  so have finger food like cookies and pastries. and also it  is nice to have something to offer them. Have parents meet and greet and teacher introduce self before getting to the PPT also read the room.

Second go over the information before placing it on the PPT. The goal is to give the family information but not overwhelm them. Have paper and pencil at the desks so they can jot down information as you go over them. Keep the information simple with the  basic information of classroom rules, expectations and grading. Go over school information like what services are offered, counselors names, principles name.  Make sure they understand how important each category is for their child. So, open the floor for discussion.

Third thing to remember have student art work, writing work out for parents to see. Have the parents sit in the student seat. This gives the parent a sense of what the student sees when they are in your class.

Finally open the floor for Q&A and come prepared with the answers. Parents will ask questions and would like to know the answer right away. So make sure to have the principal near by. Make your parent workshop personal and intimate. This is your chance to get a feel of who the parents are and how they can help you enrich their child education.
