This scenario sounds similar to the group of students that were in my class last year. Strategies to propel their reading fluency and comprehension forward would include:

• Model Fluent Reading
• Engage in Repeated Readings in Class
• Promote Phrased Reading in Class
• Enlist the Help of Tutors
• Engage Students in Readers Theatre

*Implement the use of activities to activate and increase prior knowledge (KWL Charts, discussions...)
