Scenario Response 8
Most important guidelines:
- Sensitivity
- Is the content you are teaching culturally sensitive? Does it have bias? Does the content present the facts? Teaching is a wonderful career and you can be a great teacher and still teach the wrong things. Teaching is more than instructing learners, it is being "with-it" both in the times and the content. Without being "with" the content a teacher can unintentionally askew instruction. Furthermore, this askew can have a larger effect on ELLs.
- Standard Aligned
- Does the content match the language of the standard. With forever changing standards, the content needs to align. What was being taught 20 years ago could still be in the lessons today, but the language of what is to be expected has changed.
- Inclusiveness
- Is your content readily available, or adjustable for multiple cultures, with our learners? Are there resources that you have or need that can help you better instruct your lesson? Ensure that you speak up and ask for assistance in reaching our ELLs for some of them may not be able to ask themselves.
