Mod 8 Video Discussion

“Scaffolding Literacy for ELLs” resonated with me. It illustrated how even older students (7th graders) benefit from explicit reading strategy instruction with a focus on building vocabulary. I’d love to emulate Ms. LeClair’s idea of pairing a rigorous article with a  high interest novel or even build a collection of related articles around one high interest topic. Students could really deep dive into the content. It was exciting to see how the students in the video recognized that their teacher chose the topic especially for them and how they were so much more engaged because of it.
