A formative assessment that I really like using is concept mapping. Concept mapping can be teacher-led or student driven. Finding links and creating a framework for learning content is so important and concept mapping encourages students to see the patterns and organize thoughts and ideas.
On a similar note, I’d like to incorporate brick and mortar cards into my classroom routine. This assessment would be useful in helping students organize content and make sense of the relationships by having to “cement” the words in sentence format. I think having to write about a topic is key to internalizing the material.
