Parent Workshop

Planning

Acknowledge the cultures that may be present, but plan for all cultures. Create a PowerPoint presentation that is infographic and accommodating to all. Request a support facilitator to be present at the time of the workshop. Clear out a time frame (10-20 minutes) at the end where I can answer questions and have a translator or a translation app readily available.

Day Of (Introduction)

Have classroom desks and chairs together so that families may sit together. If their child is fluent in English it allows for less misconceptions after the workshop has concluded. Greet all learners and families positively. Provide a 5-10 minute buffer for families to come in before starting.

Day of (PowerPoint)

Provide information on the classroom, myself, and the procedures; pausing in intervals to allow translations or questions to be answered. Slides included that address how I will better assist their learners in the classroom (scaffolding, assistive technology, positive reinforcement methods, etc.) End slide, provide my school email in case they have any questions in the future.

Day of (Post-PowerPoint)

Planned for a 10-20 minute buffer for any families that have some last minute concerns that I can address. The intent is to have a para to assist in translation, but also have a translator app available to better personally engage families.
