To acclimate the students socially and challenge them academically, I would implement a mixed-ability grouping approach combined with elements of cooperative learning. This approach aligns with the principles of the socio-cultural theory of learning.
1. **Mixed-ability grouping**: I would intentionally form groups with a mix of abilities, including high achievers, average students, and those who may need extra support. This allows for peer learning and fosters a sense of collaboration where students can support and learn from each other.
2. **Cooperative learning**: Within these mixed-ability groups, I would structure activities and assignments that require collaboration and communication among group members.
