Mod 2 Discussion: Getting to Know Our Students and Why

It's vital to really, really get to know our ELL's because it helps us teach them better. When we know our students, we are better educators. Understanding their backgrounds, experiences, and how well they speak English helps us figure out how to support them in class.

Culture is a big part of this. ELL's come from all over with different beliefs, ways of communicating, and ways of learning. Knowing about their culture helps us connect with them and makes them feel more comfortable in our classroom.
