For this class I would do daily read alouds with the students so they are constantly hearing what proficient reading sounds like. I can also include times for students to read aloud in groups or using choral reading. This will help the students hear themselves as well as each other and find ways to offer improvement. The students would benefit from fluency exercises which can be done in the beginning of class as an engaging activity for them. I can have them read aloud from their independent books or from the text that we read together, and they will have rotating texts weekly so that they are getting new texts and genres but also having a few days with each text so they are constantly practicing.
