A significant impact of cultural knowledge is the improvement of departmental climate. The report shows that women and minority faculty often experience a less welcoming environment characterized by microaggressions and a lack of respect. Understanding and acknowledging these experiences can drive changes that create a more supportive atmosphere, ultimately aiding in retention and success.

To foster inclusive practices, the report suggests implementing mentorship programs, engaging in outreach to diverse communities, ensuring equitable distribution of resources, and encouraging collaboration with minority-serving institutions (MSIs). These efforts not only improve workplace culture but also contribute to building a stronger sense of community.

The NSF provides several resources to support these initiatives, including the ADVANCE Program, aimed at advancing women in STEM, and AGEP, which promotes underrepresented minorities in the STEM professoriate. Programs like HBCU-UP strengthen STEM education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, while MRSEC and PREM encourage collaboration between research-intensive universities and MSIs.
