The teacher used Tier 1 support and gave explicit instructions on the two sounds ow can make and what you can do to figure out the sound that word can make. During the lesson, teachers should sound out the word with the student. After the teacher sounds out the word with the student, have the student try sounding out a word on their own and ask them if that is the correct way to say that word.
