The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) is thought to be a cross-cultural practice since it includes methods and strategies that help English Language Learners (ELLs) from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. It acknowledges that each student brings different experiences, languages, and cultural views to the classroom. It aims to make it a place where these differences are valued and used to help students do well in school.

SIOP's cross-cultural aspects are woven into the guide's parts and sections. This shows how important it is to be sensitive to and responsive to different cultures.

Component 4: Strategies include practices that highlight scaffolding and differentiation to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Component 5: Interaction discusses the importance of creating opportunities for students to interact with each other in culturally respectful ways, facilitating cross-cultural understanding.

Component 8: Review & Assessment encourages teachers to consider students' cultural backgrounds when assessing their learning, ensuring that assessment methods are fair and culturally appropriate.
