From the description provided, it appears the brain-based theory of acquisition applies to this student the most. She seems to be in the first stage of acquisition, where she is silent and assimilating the information she hears. The article suggests that we use read-alouds to help with listening comprehension. Other suggestions are to speak slowly, use smaller words, model correct language use and rephrase the correct use of words instead of correcting mistakes.
