I would say that the language theory that applies the most to this student is the Brain based theory. More specifically, the first stage: Acquisition Versus Learning Hypothesis. In this theory there are 5 stages to the ELL's learning process. This would be the first step, where they spend most of their time listening to native speakers and start trying to pick up on the language. For this student, I would choose a native speaker in the classroom to pair with the ELL so that they have a go-to student they can listen to speak. This will also make them feel more included in the classroom. I would have the ELL practice speaking with me (possible repeating after me if necessary) so that they can start to feel comfortable with the words/sounds in their mouth. I think this will help them get more accustomed to the language.
