Mod 3 scenario
I have a student in my class who is in the silent phase. He listens closely and knows only a few phrases in English.
The brain-based theory applies to this student since they are not surrounded by native English speakers at home and are not exposed to the language at home. At school, this student needs to be taught English using gestures, diagrams, pointing and repeating phrases. For the student I have, I often point to an object and have that student repeat the name of it.
This student does not participate but I work with them individually and their peers speak to them in English and teach them different words.
