Module 1 Discussion: The Stages of Language Progression

I was surprised to learn what a successful teacher of an ELL student should do. I felt treating all students equally, differentiating instruction, speaking slowly and evenly and including the student in goal-setting were all valid choices. Limited time does not always allow for attending cultural events, and a home visit feels, frankly a little intrusive and not always appropriate. I wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable showing up at a student's house for a visit, and I think a family from another culture might find it a little odd, at best or kind of alarming at worst. I guess that's why I'm taking the class! :)
