Mod 3 Discussion: Moving Students Into a New Culture
Mod 3 Discussion
I had a culture shock when I started college, and I came from a small island of 84 square miles into a space that was filled with harsh views of Caribbean people. I felt mad, confused, and scared, but I was agitated that I was charged to learn about the United States culture, history, and states, but it was not required for the schools to teach about the various cultures around the world or at least the islands that the US own. I could maintain and /or orient myself to the culture by remembering my upbringing and using the opportunity to teach about the numerous Caribbean islands. The experience has stayed with me and has shaped how I welcome all my students into my class regardless of their culture.
