When it comes to correcting students who are ELL, it is important to maintain a "safe" learning environment that low-stress and encourages the students to keep wanting to learn. If you were to constantly nitpick and correct a student, this could eventually lead to lack of self-esteem/confidence and potentially hinder the desire to learn the new language. I believe the text said it best when there needs to be a line when correcting students, based entirely around comprehension. If the student says something that is completely comprehendible, but makes minor grammatical or syntax errors, there is no need to correct them. As they continue mastering the language, these grammatical issues will eventually correct themselves. Though, if there is an issue with comprehending what is being said, a light and gentle correction is needed. Other than correcting, there are many tools a teacher can utilize in aiding a student to correct themselves. For example, repetition of key points, referencing back to concrete materials (maps, globes, photos) and acting out meanings of things.
