This particular student needs a combination of vocabulary and guided reading instruction. From the standpoint of guided reading, the student needs to read leveled books which he enjoys and then progress to higher leveled books which contains new vocabulary. The student also needs vocabulary development and therefore needs to incorporate new vocabulary into his learning. Vocabulary development will help increase fluency and give him a better understanding of words and how to use them. I would teach vocabulary in a whole group session using the website https://visuwords.com/ (this website helps students visualize how to use words). Then teach critical terms in an explicit direct instruction session and from the direct instruction session, students will break up in cooperative learning groups and discuss vocabulary terms.
