Title:

Strategies for Teaching to Multiculturalism:

Resource: https://www.teachervision.com/teaching-methods/resource/6039.html

This website is centered on how to create a multi-cultured classrooms and the techniques to use to make that happen.

It talks about the relationships between the teacher and students and how you can effectively improve those relationships through different venues such as communication and discovering student interests and relating to them on that level.

Relating to these other venues can also help in developing a positive learning atmosphere for mutual respect of all cultures.

  1. Positive perspectives on parents and families and developing a rapport with the parent

  2. Communication of high expectations is always necessary when developing a rapport with parents and children.

  3. Learning within the context of culture is also viable to use when dealing ELL students when trying to help them learn another language.

  4. Student-centered instruction is essential to hold student's attention in keeping them engaged.

  5. Culturally mediated instruction gives the student a chance to relate what they are currently being taught with what they know about their own culture.

  6. Reshaping of the curriculum can be beneficial to helping a struggling student to better grasp the concept as the teacher uses different materials and strategies to promote understanding to the ELL student.
  7. The teacher as facilitator is also a good tool as it helps remove the teacher from a teacher centered to a student centered classroom.
  8. I will incorporate to some degree most of these strategies when working with ELL students.  The ELL student needs to feel safe and as productive and contributing member of the classroom as they try to succeed as a Second Language learner.
