Mod 3 Discussion: Moving Students Into a New Culture

Starting my new position in a new school when I moved from New York to Florida was overwhelming for me.  While I am a seasoned teacher, I had to re-learn a whole new system of of content standards, school dynamics and meet all new people.  It took a long time to "figure it out", but I found that being patient, honest, and humble in the process helped.  I tapped into professionals that seemed to have the "with-it-ness" that I look for in the profession, and requested a mentor.   I found the challenge to be an eye-opening experience and gave me a new respect for teaching and working with students.
