It is important to get to know and understand our ELLs because like any other student, they are unique individuals with preferences, distinct learning styles, have likes/dislikes, and should have tailored learning experiences that will allow the to thrive, reach their maximum potential while supporting them fit into the learning community.  In order to be inclusive, teachers need to take the time and make the investment in ELLs, and identify how to best support them, their needs, etc.

Culture is a big part of the lives we all have and share with one another.  Each culture has it's own norms, rituals/rules, and ways people function in the global community they know.  Each culture is unique, and it is critical to understand how these "uniqueness" may or may not have an impact on how one learns in a new environment.  Accepting of culture and adapting to it should be a priority for all teachers.

I think you are correct. A teacher should make a concerted effort to realize the cultural differences of students and how those students are relating to the new culture and the difference between the culture they came from and the new one they are having to adjust to.
