Mod 19 Discussion: Taking the Lead on Literacy

Literacy is important to all content areas no matter the grade level that is taught. I would recommend for my colleagues to use literature as a model for writing in all content areas. When using this model, teachers are able to tap into students' prior knowledge and enables student to make the necessary connections when applying the text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world. Students love when they are able to relate to what they are learning. This model also promotes independence in reading.
