If a new student from a divergent culture came into my room, I believe the first and most important thing to do would be to welcome them with open arms. I would also plan a discussion with the parents to see if there is anything I should be aware of, so I can make sure I am being respectful of the student and their family’s culture at all times. I would prioritize introducing the student to the whole class in a positive and encouraging manner, but if I had a student who spoke their native language, I would do a separate introduction for them and have them sit next to each other. This should help ease the integration.
