Module 1: Goals for This Course and Thoughts About Article

My goal for this course is that I can learn how to better assist my students whose native language is not English, and to close any achievement gap between ELLs and native English speakers. What stood out to me the most with the article was the section on lowering or raising the bar according to race. That has an insanely negative impact on all racial groups, and it reinforces the idea that some groups are more capable than others. It is important that we show students that everyone is held to the same standards, so they do not get discouraged nor do they try less because they believe they have to achieve less.
