Scenario Response 1
Scenario Response 1 - Drum Dream Girl
I am teaching DRUM DREAM GIRL, a poem written about Millo Castro Zaldarriaga, a Chinese African Cuban girl. In the poem, Millo wants to be a drummer but in her culture only boys are allowed to be drummers.
My question would be "What did the Dream Drum Girl dream?"
- Preproduction "Show me how to drum and I would demonstrate drumming"
- Early production "Did the Dream Drum Girl know how to drum?" Yes/No
- Speech emergence "Why couldn't the Dream Drum Girl drum?"
- Intermediate fluency "Tell me about the Dream Drum Girl and what she heard when the drums were played?" The poem is rich with thoughts and colorful language, making it possible for the student to respond.
- Advanced fluency Compare what the Drum Dream Girl wanted to do and something you would like to do." This allows them to compare and contrast.
