Module 5 Discussion: Language Acquisition in Content Areas

Language activities that can be consistently worked into a cross curricular curriculum in order to reinforce morphological awareness and linguistic skills while deepening understanding of content are establishing classroom rules and procedures, alphabet-word walls, reading aloud, Language Experience Approach, sight word activities, decoding/phonics activities, and morphology instruction. I personally use and have used a word wall, morphology instruction, sight word activities such as flash cards and matching, as well as reading aloud. I plan to integrate more morphology instruction and the Language Experience Approach going forward.
