Module 12 Discussion: SIOP
THE SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) model is a research based method that allows teachers to plan and deliver a lesson that allows them to address the language needs of their students while teaching content at the same time. Often, if students don't have a grasp of oral/written language it is more difficult for them to learn content. Therefore, by using the SIOP model, students will be better able to grasp the content. There are 8 key components: preparation, build background, comprehensible input, strategies, interaction, practice and application, lesson delivery, and review and assessment.
