We would then do rotation stations to including the following: 1. teacher-led DI 2. Reading circle/small group discussion around the essential question 3. Independent writing (responding to the essential question) 4. computer
- 60-minute literacy block for grade 6: We would begin by previewing vocabulary and activating prior knowledge, followed by a cloze reading of the text. Then we would do an I Do/We Do/You do on the standards-based activity. I would end with an exit ticket with short response to the essential question.

- 30-minute writing class for grade 11: I would begin with a mini-lesson on part of the essay (i.e. thesis statement or elaborating evidence). I would provide examples using either PowerPoint or the document projector. Students would then work on that part of the essay (this would be part of a multi-day assignment in which students were writing essays). I would circulate the room, providing formative feedback. Students would complete the remainder of that part of the essay at home along with a self-reflection checklist.
