Strategy: Pre-Teach Vocabulary

Introduce vocabulary words to students by implementing pictures, words in context, background knowledge and interest. Use analogies, metaphors, and allow students to create drawings or symbols for words. Also, small-group and whole-group discussions of vocabulary words. Accommodations of large print, Braille format, and tactile graphics for the visually impaired students.
