Methods I can use to alleviate cultural miscommunications for the student that has been placed in my classroom include the following:

• Get to know the culture of the student
• If possible, make home visits to get to know the family
• Ask the student questions regarding their cultural practices
• Provide topics/lessons that relate to the student's interests
• Provide feedback
• If required, provide scaffolding and differentiation
• Communicate on a regular basis with the parents regarding any questions, concerns, or suggestions they may have
