If I had a family of new students from a country with very divergent beliefs, I would make sure to learn as much as I can about the family's cultural beliefs to avoid any misconceptions. Additionally, I would have the new students share any information that they were comfortable with about themselves and their culture, so that the other students in the class could also get some perspective on the beliefs and customs of their new classmates. I would also make sure that everyone involved in the child(ren)'s education (i.e. parents/guardians, administration, ESOL specialist, etc.) was on the same page by communicating with everyone regularly. I believe that one of the single most important things in a child's education is family involvement, so I would make sure that the parent/guardian were kept in the loop as much as possible.

From an administrative perspective, I would make sure to meet with the teachers who would be receiving these students and let them know that there would be plenty of support for, not only the student(s), but for them as well. The ESOL specialist would also play a huge role in transitioning these students to daily life at our school and they would be available to assist the child and their family as needed. Connections/resources throughout the community could also be used to help make our new students' transition easier and make them feel more comfortable in their new surroundings.
