If I had to train the staff, I would start by sharing some reading data that was positive.  I would also compare to other schools in the district or other district where we scored better than they did.  Then, I would have the staff look at the data and see where we needed improvement as a school. I would enlist staff to come up with some strategies they have used that would build vocabulary.  I would find videos of some research-based strategies that improve vocabulary achievement and show clips to the staff.   Some other ideas that I would share are:  student glossaries,  pairing visuals with words, acting out words, illustrating words, vocabulary games, etc.
