90 Minute literacy block-1st grade

  • Read Aloud focusing on comprehension and vocabulary (10 minutes)
  • Guided Reading centers- students read text on their instructional level and work on specific reading skills students not meeting with teacher work in reading centers (45 minutes)
  • Writing Workshop- whole group- teacher focuses on specific writing skill that students can use in their own writing (10 minutes)
  • Independent writing- students will write independently on selected topic and the teacher will conference with students one on one (20 minutes)
  • Students will pair up and share a part of their independent writing with a partner (5 minutes)

 

90 Minute literacy block -3rd grade

  • Writing lesson- whole group- teacher focuses on specific writing skill that students can use in their own writing (10 Minutes)
  • Independent writing-students write independently on selected topic and teacher conferences individually with students.(20 minutes)
  • Read Aloud- whole group focusing on comprehension and vocabulary (15 minutes)
  • Reading Centers- students work in small groups, some are meeting with teacher, group independent practice center, group independent reading (30 Minutes)
  • Word study- focus on grammar or vocabulary alternating during the week (15 minutes)

 

60 minute literacy block-6th grade

  • mini lesson on specific writing skill students can use in their own writing (10 minutes)
  • Independent writing time- students work independently ion writing piece while teacher conferences with students individually (30 minutes)
  • Share- students will share their writing with a partner.  Partner will use mentor feedback with partner (10 minutes)
  • Read Aloud- Teacher will continue a read aloud with whole group focusing on vocabulary and comprehension skills. (10 minutes)

 

60 minutes literacy block - 9th grade

  • Mini lesson on specific skill- (5 minutes)
  • Read text and analyze text - whole group (15 minutes)
  • outline the text using graphic organizer on specific teacher guided question (10 Minutes)
  • Partner work to share and complete outline (10 minutes)
  • independent writing- students write independently while teacher conferences or checks in with student (15 minutes)
  • Share writing whole group (5 minutes)

 

30 minute writing class -11th grade

  • Mini lesson whole group on focused skill (10 minutes)
  • teacher Check in- ( 5 minutes)
  • Independent writing (15 minutes)

The next day I would start with sharing from the previous day.
