Use repetition of sentence patterns and routines. Songs and rhymes are wonderful for promoting language development. Students learn what to expect from the repetitions, and can make predictions using language they are familiar with, watching new meaning to words for vocabulary expansion. I like to use this strategy in teaching phonics/reading. It is great to use in guided reading where you can tailor the lessons to small groups of children who need specific skills. Here you can work on phonics, vocabulary, word word, sentence structure - and apply it all to reading at an appropriate level.
