With a student with very divergent cultural beliefs, I would do some research on their culture so I don't overstep boundaries or make the new family uncomfortable. I would include some of their culture into my lessons here and there to help the student feel more at ease. I would try to make sure notes sent home were able to be translated if possible. I would also do a lot of modeling, so the student could see what I want and pair them with a helpful partner.
