What Has Changed?

Education in the past used to be very teacher driven and teacher focused. The teacher would be in the front of the classroom and leading the students through an activity. Students would be expected to be on their best behavior and negative actions would be punished quickly and often severely. The teacher was essentially the "conductor" of a symphony.

However, teachers today play more of a facilitator role and help guide students. The focus is on students leading the instruction and becoming more involved in guiding their own instruction. The classroom is more dynamic and flexible.
