Home Language Survey

After looking over the Home Language Survey, I believe the first four questions are the most important for meeting my students academic and communication needs. I really would need to know what language is spoken at home.  If i need to communicate with a parent, this would let me know how.  This would also let me know that the student might not be able to receive help with reading due to the dominant language at home. I would like to ask if there is any adult or older sibling that speaks English that could help their child read at night. If not, I try to have volunteers come read with my students one on one to get them a double or triple dose of reading and vocabulary instruction. I love seeing the relationships with the volunteers flourish as well as the student’s reading and confidence become stronger.
