Find a text to evaluate for cultural relevance and adoption.

  1. Identify a text used in the past, or one to be used in the future.
    1. Googlebooks allows for searching sections of text. If you can get a full table of contents, index, glossary, and view of other chapters it would suffice for this assignment.
  2. Consider the source's ability to differentiate effectively to meet the needs of all learners along a second language progress continuum.
  3. Use the Text and Non-Text Selection criteria sheet and fill it out in full with comments on each section.
  4. Use the criteria sheet to rate the book, and make an overall decision regarding the book's appropriateness
  5. Make suggestions as to how to supplement the book: differentiation, scaffolding, tiering, or any other support needed to fill in any gaps and make the text usable.

Create an outline detailing a set of school guidelines for selecting a textbook for inclusive classrooms.  Describe and critique the non-textbook selection process based on how well the current process recognizes diverse cultures and meets the needs of all learners in your school.  Propose any necessary changes to the non-textbook selection process.  

  1. Describe and detail a recognized selection process based on a multi-cultural population of students.
  2. Consider the source's ability to differentiate effectively to meet the needs of all learners along a second language progress continuum.
