Scenario Response 5
Scenario Response 5
To build and improve fluency in this classroom, I would implement a differentiated literacy program that provides opportunities for modeled, guided, and independent reading. Since more than half of the students are reading at least two grade levels below, I would use small-group instruction and repeated reading activities with the use of leveled texts to develop accuracy, rate, and expression. The five beginner bilingual students would receive additional language supports such as vocabulary pre teaching, visual aids, choral reading like the video in module 13 showed, and peer partnerships to strengthen both English proficiency and reading fluency. The two special education students would receive accommodations and targeted interventions aligned with their individual learning needs while participating in whole-class fluency activities. On-grade-level readers would continue to build fluency through more challenging texts, reader’s theater, and discussion-based reading tasks. I would allow students to choose fiction and nonfiction books within their reading range. Because students receive limited literacy enrichment outside of school, I would prioritize consistent, meaningful reading practice during class time.
