Mod 19 Discussion: Taking the Lead on Literacy

A content area approach, I would recommend across all subjects is sheltered instruction, using comprehensible input with structured language support. This approach ensures that grade level content remains rigorous while being made accessible to ELL students through intentional instruction design.  This approach is effective because it supports both content, mastery and language development simultaneously ensuring ELL's are not learning English in isolation, but using it meaningfully across all subject areas.
