The teacher’s approach to teaching phonemic awareness was highly effective, particularly in helping students understand the different pronunciations of the “ow” sound. She clearly explained the importance of learning the first pronunciation rule and then applying the second rule when the first does not make sense. This step‑by‑step method provides ELLs with a systematic process about phonemic awareness. I plan to incorporate this strategy into my own instruction by emphasizing pronunciation rules and guiding students through them systematically (learning the first and second rule about phonemics). I will also apply consistent practice (such as reading aloud, repeating target sounds, and engaging in frequent pronunciation exercises in class) that will help students learn the patterns and rules as well as apply them confidently when reading.
