Mod 1 Video Discussion

The school’s dual language program effectively taught young children to learn a second-language at an early age by immersing them to a different race or culture. The approach used in teaching English as a second language was also very successful because it incorporates fun, engaging, and interactive learning activities that sustain student interest. In addition, the teamwork played by both the general education teacher and the bilingual teacher is very effective in how they work together with the aligned curriculum. 

Reflecting on the school’s instructional model, I believe these strategies will be highly beneficial in my own practice when working with English Language Learners. Ongoing coordination with students’ bilingual teachers is essential for understanding the concepts students have already learned and identifying areas that require reinforcement. As a Health Science Foundations teacher at the high school level, maintaining communication with my students’ English teachers will support a clearer understanding of each learner’s language development and help me better tailor instruction to their needs.
