Mod 19 Discussion: Taking the Lead on Literacy

One approach that I would suggest using throughout all content areas is explicit vocabulary teaching along with structured discussions. Since this method works great for mathematics, science, history, PE, and fine arts classes, I can easily utilize it in my classroom.

Some examples of strategies that may be used include preteaching of vocabulary terms, modeling of academic language, and offering opportunities for students to share their thoughts through partner discussions or group collaboration.

This particular approach appeals to me because it is helpful not only for ESL students but for everyone else too.
